Jofeh Center for Special Needs, Jofeh
25th Aug - 9th September 2010
The Jofeh Center for Special Needs is based in the Jordan Valley, and has an outreach ministry in the support of disabled people including vocational training, special education, rehabilitation and community development. It is an extension ministry of the Holy Land Institute for the Deaf (HLID), Salt. The Highway Projects team will be involved in practical painting and decorating work in the accommodation blocks which will allow the Center to develop and attract further resources to this very needy area. The team will also be able to interact with local children and many of the disabled people supported by this new unit.

2009's team leader Emma Beevers reports on last year's work:
"The Center is the only Christian ministry work in the Jordan valley and it serves a wide community providing a number of valuable services. Our work was based around the children’s work at the centre and we were redecorating classrooms that are now being used to teach in. The rooms were in desperate need of repair including plastering, sanding and cleaning as well as painting.
Because of its location, the climate in Jofeh was very hot so we spent early hours working and then spent the rest of our time at the centre. This allowed us to get to know other areas of the work and meet other community groups that benefit from the centre. The time was challenging but a huge amount of fun and the work has been valuable in the centre improving the provision of its services particularly for these young people.
We had the opportunity to see God at work in one of the most underprivileged places that Highway Projects has ever worked and it was a great joy to be a part of such significant ministry."
