2009's team leader Fran Paterson shares last year's activities:

"The volunteers at the Good Samaritan Centre are local celebrities! They use their position well and for the good of the needy elderly in the Christian Quarter of the Old City, and it was good to be able to get to know them and offer them encouragement. There are many frustrations for them to deal with throughout the year, but they acted as a great link between the Highway Projects team and local elderly people.

This year we were able to work with a number of fascinating individuals and in the process of decorating their homes ( five different ones this year) got to know them. We were struck by the level of poverty some endured and also by the difference their Christian faith made to them. We scraped below the surface in more ways than one! By the evening we had much to reflect on, not least the reality of faith expressed in ways foreign to most of us. Throughout we managed to combine valuable work, laughter and challenging reflection without getting exhausted…it was almost like a holiday!"
